Map Dot is a dream concept created by two sisters, one going through a trial and one, a triumph! Deedee Mills Hagner, a restaurateur in Charlotte, NC, was not spared by COVID-19. The Summit Room, her Kilimanjaro-climb and southern-inspired restaurant, was too small and intimate to survive. With the Mayobird still holding on, Deedee moved that chicken salad specialty shop to a new, walk-up window location hoping the pivot would allow it to thrive.

Melissa Mills Lebo was living in Greenville, NC working at a luxury home consignment boutique when her husband, Jeff, got the opportunity of a lifetime: a spot on the UNC-Chapel Hill men’s basketball coaching staff, a return to his alma mater and the court he helped christen in 1986.

Jeff isn’t the only alum. Deedee and Melissa are both Carolina graduates, so the idea to collaborate in Chapel Hill, a place they both love, was ignited. With Deedee’s business creativity and a food truck to spare and Melissa’s experience in the interior design and retail space, Map Dot was born. After outgrowing their upfitted mobile boutique, the shop transformed into a Chapel Hill Franklin Street shopping experience and ultimately moved to Raleigh into The Painted Tree.
